 PowerLifting
RALPH STOVER
My name is Ralph Stover and I am 21 years old.
I am a drug-free powerlifter who trains at Buckeye Gym in Tallmadge, Ohio, and I compete in the IPA and SPF. I have been powerlifting for almost two years, and started my powerlifting journey off by competing in singly ply competitions with the USAPL. As I got a few meets under my belt, I decided I wanted to give multi-ply lifting a try, and have not looked back ever since. I currently hold the Ohio state records with a 540lb squat, 365 lb bench, 495lb deadlift, and a 1400lb total in the 148lb class. I am 80lbs away from getting my elite total, and plan on attaining that in my next meet. I am also ranked #8 in squat, #10 in bench, #12 in deadlift, and #10 in total on the 2010 Powerliftingwatch.com lifter rankings, which are regardless of age, federation, and drug-testing.
The next meet I am training for is the SPF Luke Edwards benefit meet on December 5, 2010. Although my training has been going well, this training cycle has been extremely difficult for me. My grandpa, who I am very close to, was diagnosed with terminal cancer 9 months ago. He is not doing very well at all, and the doctors have told us it is just a matter of weeks. Trying to stay focused and motivated to lift heavy weight becomes even harder when you are emotionally upset and down. Instead of dwelling on the negatives of his illness, I am focusing on the things he has taught me. He has never given up and has been fighting with all his might with this battle of cancer, and he has inspired me to fight with everything I have in every aspect of my life. I am determined to become stronger everyday and have done so by feeling stronger than ever and hitting pr's already in my training cycle. Lord willing, I expect to put up a pretty solid total at this next meet and take some world records home.
To finish up, I want to thank God for giving me the strength He has, and the opportunity and ability to powerlift. I give all the glory to Him and He is my source of strength. I would also like to thank those that took the time to read this, and Will at Bodysbest for this great opportunity. It is an honor.
 BodyBuilding
JIM HARDER
Weightlifting has always been an important part of my life. After 13 years as a bricklayer I had become laid off and was considering what type of new career path to choose. I got my personal training certification and began training. I love what I do and enjoy seeing the changes in my clients bodies. I have been personal training for 3 1/2 years now. I competed in my first natural bodybuilding competition at 37 years old. I weighed 215 before my first competition and competed in middleweight division at 176 pounds. I received 3rd place which I felt was a major accomplishment for my age competing against many men in their 20's. I am planning to compete in the spring of 2011 at the Natural Northern Ohio contest again at age 39. I am proud to be a drug free bodybuilder for life competitor.

 StrongMan
PETE BERG
I compete in strongman and powerlifting.
Age 43
Weight 231 for strongman and 242 for powerlifting

I got my first set of weights in 1977 and competed for the first time in weight lifting in 1979 and did a few high school and local powerlifting meets until I joined the Marine Corps in 1985 where my training changed to be more conditioning type training. I quit going to the gym after I got out of the Marines in the winter of 1989 and became lazy and avoided any exercise at all cost until 1996 when I was tired of being fat and lazy, so I got a gym membership and became a gym rat wanting to compete again but was to afraid to try. In December of 2005 I seen a posting for the Minnesota winter challenge strongman contest and I thought I could do this so I called the promoter and asked if he would have a day to test the equipment to see what I could do and he responded by inviting me to train with him so I did for one day a week for about 8 weeks and I was hooked all I could do was think about competing and in January 2006 I competed and finished 4th.
Now I had the bug and wanted to compete as much as I could and in the summer of 2007 I was in a contest with a car deadlift in it and when I went, the car went up fast and at the top the car bounce on the frame and I could feel something pop in my low back and hip, I had ruptured my disc between L-5 and S-1 and dislocated my hip, I had lost feeling in my lower leg and could not move my foot requiring me to have a surgery to repair the disc. I didn't think that this injury should the end of competing so with the help of my training partner Chris Canada we went back to work and started by putting some kegs in a pool and lifting them in there to keep all the pressure off the low back. Within 6 months I competed again in Florida in the masters division and 4 more time through the summer ending with Masters Nationals finishing 7th. After nationals we thought that it would be a good idea to take it easy for a few weeks so we went to a gym and were doing some axle clean and presses when some one bumped into me causing me to fall forward with the axle and once again feeling a lot of pain in my low back. I went to the Dr's and found out that I had fractures in all five lumbar vertebra and had ruptured the L-5, S-1 and tore L-2, L-3 disc so back to surgery. I didn't think it was possible to return to strongman but I was going to give it one more try but I promised the surgeon that I would not compete in strongman for one year.
I called Scott Nutter who had a bench press gym and asked him if he would teach me how to bench in a shirt to keep my promise to my Surgeon, I competed in 3 bench meets in 2009 and went to AAPF nationals in 2010 were I placed first and set a new record in the police fire division with a bench of 468. In May of 2010 I competed in strongman for the first time sense the surgery in November 08 and got my butt kick, went back into the gym and competed two more times this summer improving each time and I hope to go back to Strongman Masters Nationals in 2011 as well as AAPF Nationals to break my record.

OCTOBER 2010
 POWERLIFTER
JOSH MILLER
I am Josh Miller, 18 years old, currently 253lbs, 13% bodyfat. I compete in the IPA and the APF, and hold the world record Squat for the Teen 16-17 year olds 242 class at 665lbs. I was planning another meet this past summer in which I was planning to attempt mid to high 700s. Then I broke my ankle. Dislocated the ankle, tore all the tendons and ligaments, and spiral fracture of the fibia about 4 inches up and around the bone. My foot was turned 90 degrees to one side, and I had to undergo immediate emergency surgery. After surgery the doctor gave me the following estimates for recovery time. On crutches, no weight at all on the leg for 8-10 weeks. From this point until 12-16 weeks I would still have to wear a protective boot. That is how extensive the damage was. At the 12-16 week mark it was expected I could begin to learn to walk with just a brace.
Determined to maintain my strength and recover as fast as possible I searched for new ways to train. Heavy hip thrusts with the bar behind my knees so no pressure would be on the ankle, seated GMs, and extensions and leg curls with just the weight of the boot for literally hundreds of reps was all I could do for lower body. I kept my upper body strength up and just had to rely on more machines for back work, and on 1 arm DB rows.
I also put everything I had into speeding my recovery. I spent much of my graduation money on cissus, multi minerals, ect to help speed my recovery, in addition to cleaning up my diet, and ceasing the use of NSAIDs and anything that may slow bone growth.
In addition to this, rather than sit there all day, I did my physical therapy, ALL DAY. It was prescribed at 15 minutes a day... I did it for hours. Sometimes up to 5-6 hours straight. I basically only quit when the pain was so bad that I was about to puke. I continually wiggled my toes, no matter what, just to increase blood flow and provide more nutrients to the area. Meditation was something else I implemented. I literally did EVERYTHING that was legal that I could find to speed my recovery.
At the 2 week mark the doctor was surprised how quickly I was healing.
At the 4 week mark he cleared me to walk with just the boot, and to do hamstring curls and quad extensions again.
At the 6 week mark he completely cleared me. He even told me he had never seen anyone heal from such a serious injury so quickly.
10 weeks post injury I hit a new PR squat of 755 Later that same week I hit a PR deadlift of 565, and a PR block pull of 615 (the picture I attached) You will notice in this picture the ankle brace on my right ankle, that is because it was still too weak to support itself during heavy lifting, so rather than take more time off, I just tightened the brace and got stronger.
I was also able to walk normally by the time I began college. Despite continual swelling and discomfort I never slow down, and never continue to become stronger.

 BODYBUILDER
JEFF GREER

I actually started getting into shape when I was 28. I had a 3 year old son who lived with me and I knew I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle if I was going to be raising him. So I decided to buy a BowFlex. I used it for two years and then joined a gym and started using free weights. The last few years I have gotten alot more serious about my diet and lifting. It wasn't until recently that I decided to enter a bodybuilding show.
I am 5'8" 156lbs . Right now I am at 6.1% BF. I believe I can get down to 3.5-4% before my show. My max squat and deadlift are 380 and 435 respectively. Current supps are Applied Nutriceuticals HGHup, FreeTest, Neovar and Biomend, Myogenix Hyper shock, LgScience BC+Eaa's and Lipotrophic Protein. I will be running AppNuts Lipo AM and PM during my cut to get ready for my show. I am a sponsored Applied Nutriceuticals athelete. I truly believe AppNuts supplements have helped me achieve my goals and get me were I am at.
My kids are getting older and look up to me so my goals are to continue living a healthy lifestyle. My like to set short term personall goals. My goal right now is to get in the best shape of my life for my first BB'ing show.

I had been training in attempts to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials for the Shot put however logistics and life happened and I had felt my spiritual journey had been fulfilled thus far and to embark in a new endeavor, which ultimately became Strongman. Having severe & acute asthma foremost puts me at a disadvantage, however I rely on my speed, athletic ability and strength to support my conditioning, which is priority and sets champions apart from the rest of the field. For the past year I had been competing under the North American Strongman Association, and completed 6 competitions; obtaining one 1st place standing, Two 2nd place standings with merged weight classes, Two 3rd place standings (with merged weight classes), one top 5 standings, respectively, often being edged out of first or 2nd by merged weight class and competing against Super Heavy Weights which weigh in excess of 300+# lbs. I had sufficiently broken into the Strongman circuit, turning heads in the process. I have the potential for become a Light Weight Professional Strongman, and among the top contenders in the Amateur Heavy Weight category in the NAS organization. I have also had multiple newspaper write ups within the News of Delaware County and the Delaware Times. I am have a bachelors in Marketing, and perusing an Associates - to - Doctorate within Physical Therapy.
Thank You for the opportunity!
